We are happy to showcase work from Marta Ferri, again, who is currently pursuing her Bachelor in Fine Arts at the ZHdK (Zurich University of the Arts). The photos were captured last summer during a journey through Europe with her best friend, Atena with a point and shoot camera. They are intended as a documentary photo series—images taken casually, almost by chance, yet they narrate profound stories. Some pictures might appear overly staged, poised for the perfect moment, glossy, and polished. These photos prompt us to reflect, somewhat wistfully, on the bygone days of photography. Back then, the act of taking a photo was less about meticulous thought and more about feeling the moment, striving to seize THE moment.
“Strolling through the streets of Montpellier, Barcelona, Paris and Amsterdam, my best friend and I found ourselves admiring the different and unique architecture of each city. Observing the locals and enjoying our time we had in each city, we discovered little coffeeshops, cute corners and lots of amazing views.
This series is about the nostalgia I feel thinking back to the warm sun rays tingling my skin and feeling carefree; a feeling which traveling and summer often provoke in me. We went interrailling during the month of June and even though the train rides were very long and didn’t go as planned, we enjoyed our time soaking in all the impressions each city has to offer.
Taking my point and shoot camera everywhere, I tried to capture the cities, the locals, the life with the curiosity of exploring as much as possible. Also it serves as a reminder that summer is only three more months away.”
