A person’s empathy is often expressed through their ability to change perspectives. It involves stepping out of one’s self to view the world through the eyes of someone else who stands in a different place and walks in different shoes. Sometimes, people forget this crucial aspect. However, it is vital to cultivate understanding — recognizing that things often do not unfold as we wish, and people do not always respond in the ways we expect. The new series by photographer Sabine van Lagen unveils the magic of the famous hill in Cape Town from an alternative perspective. Visible from all over the city, it consistently presents itself in varying lights. We are captivated by this film series, which exhibits a love for detail and the concept of shifting perspectives.
Sabine tells: “During my time living in Cape Town, I found myself utterly fascinated by the majestic presence of Lion’s Head, an iconic landmark visible from every point in the city. Whether I was immersing myself in hikes, enjoying beach days, leisurely strolls, scenic drives, or simply savoring a moment over coffee, my camera was always at hand to capture the essence of this breathtaking mountain.
Each moment presented an opportunity to freeze-frame the enchanting essence of Lion’s Head, standing tall at 669 meters above the azure sea, creating an atmosphere of pure magic.”
