We are excited to present an exclusive interview and photoshoot with the stunning Mariya Kramarenko, captured by the talented photographer Jorge Arango Kure. The photo series was shot in London Fields at the beginning of Spring, aiming to evoke feminine looks with a delicate interplay between color and black-and-white imagery. The color photos, were shot on Kodak 120mm and 35mm film, while the black-and-white images, were captured using expired Illford FP4 Medium Format film.
Photographer Jorge Arango Kure shared his vision: “We wanted to evoke feminine looks with a play between the color images being soft and pastel-like and the black-and-white more sharp and alluring. Everything was shot on film to emphasize the slow and nostalgic world we wanted to create.”
Mariya’s Journey: From Kharkiv to the World
Mariya Kramarenko opens up about her journey: “I grew up in Kharkiv, the largest city in eastern Ukraine. Despite the backdrop of Soviet buildings and political conflicts, my parents created an environment where I could develop freely. My childhood was filled with books and reading, but as a teenager, I became interested in modeling. I applied for photoshoots and jobs in Kharkiv, achieving success over the years. However, I couldn’t imagine where my journey would take me.
A few years later, after graduating from high school and starting my studies in Warsaw, I visited my relatives in Germany. There, I discovered an ad for an open casting at a model agency. I thought, ‘What do I have to lose?’ and decided to give it a try.”
Mariya, what inspired you to pursue a career in modeling?
I got into modeling at 13 after watching a Victoria’s Secret show. Seeing those models confidently walk the runway struck a chord with me. Despite being shy and reserved, I felt a strong pull towards it. Then, at 15, I caught the attention of scouts on social media. That’s when I decided to take the plunge into modeling and push myself out of my comfort zone.
What has been the most transformative experience in your life so far?
One of the most transformative experiences in my life has been witnessing the war in Ukraine. Even though I didn’t live there, the events deeply affected me, prompting a reevaluation of my priorities and values. It felt like a catalyst for personal growth, making me mature faster. Additionally, my extensive travel experiences have exposed me to diverse cultures and people, fostering an open-minded attitude towards life.
How do you define success, and what steps are you taking to achieve it?
In my mid-twenties, I started to transition from pursuing external success to seeking internal fulfillment. When your mind is at peace, you gain clarity and learn how to surf through the challenges life presents. This led me to prioritize my well-being and take small, deliberate steps towards achieving my goals.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to your younger self?
If I could go back in time, I would advise my younger self not to be afraid of cultivating inner strength, to be more courageous, and to learn to live in the present moment.
What do you believe is the purpose of life?
I know that many people emphasize the importance of having a purpose, but for me, I’ve never been overly concerned about it. I prefer to embrace life as it comes and find purpose in the act of living itself.
How do you handle setbacks and failures?
I handle setbacks and failures by taking a moment to pause, collect myself, and understand that I am the one who must navigate through them. Taking a deep breath helps me regain focus and perspective, allowing me to approach challenges with resilience and determination.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
The vision of the life I want for myself serves as my main source of motivation, keeping me focused on my goals.

Mindfulness and meditation play an essential role in my daily routine. Taking a moment to pause, breathe deeply, and center myself helps me navigate through life’s challenges with clarity and resilience. It allows me to stay focused on my goals and maintain a sense of balance amidst the chaos of daily life.
What are your thoughts on the impact of social media on self-esteem and mental health?
I believe social media can have a significant impact on self-esteem and mental health. While it can offer connection and inspiration, it also presents unrealistic standards and comparison, which can erode self-esteem. Personally, the pressure to maintain a certain image or level of engagement can sometimes take a toll on mental well-being. That’s why I strive to balance my online presence with self-care practices and prioritize authenticity over perfection.
