Losing someone, whether through an accident, illness, or any other tragic circumstance, is something deeply heartbreaking. Tomos Eames’ latest release, “Black on the Other Side,” captures this visceral emotion and channels it into a raw musical tribute.
“Black on the Other Side,” draws deeply from Tomos’ personal experience of losing his father to cancer during his twenties. “Black On the Otherside was written after my father died. It’s strangely euphoric as I felt his presence went elsewhere after his passing in a kind of brilliant motion. It’s about life and the afterlife which I have a strong feeling we do carry on somewhere after we shed these bodies! It’s also peppered with memories of his sayings and how life really is a wave we just have to ride it.” The song is unadorned, stripped down to its core, delivering a message that is both pure and poignant. Eames’ folk-driven, dark Americana style shines through, offering an ode to his father and exploring the realities of death and what lies beyond. And it is a heartfelt message to those we’ve lost and a reminder of the profound connections that transcend life and death.
Emerging from the heart of Cardiff, Wales, Tomos Eames is known for his powerful performances in Camden’s blues bars, where he blends blues with the rustic charm of indie folk. His upcoming EP, “EDGES,” promises to be an auditory journey, capturing the gritty essence of city life contrasted with the intoxicating allure of weekend adventures.
