This summer felt different from previous ones—for me, at least. I’m currently moving through a period of detachment, letting go of things I’ve come to cherish. It’s painful, but I hope to find freedom on the other side. Whether it’s the right path, I can’t be certain. Letting go of someone you’ve grown to love is perhaps one of the hardest things we face.
Just like summer—the hot, weightless days that feel endless, where everything seems to take on new meaning. But even the best summer days eventually come to an end, making way for the inevitable change. The leaves lose their vibrant freshness, signaling the transition. With each passing season, we are reminded that change is constant, and just as summer fades, so too must we learn to release what we hold dear.
Photographer Daniel Cruz reflects on the season’s end, saying, “Summer is over—simple and plain. But we still had one last weekend of sun and warmth. Mackenzie and I love shooting together, so we thought spending the final Sunday of summer lounging by the pool and playing chess would be the perfect way to say goodbye. It was a good reminder of how ideal those sunny days can be, like something out of an Eric Rohmer movie.”
