Keen-eyed C-Heads readers may already recognize the name Marta Ferri, a Bachelor of Fine Arts student whose work lingers in the mind like the final note of a haunting melody. Her photographs are not posed or polished but raw, like fragments of a dream, caught just before waking—moments stolen from time itself.
This time, she delivers us her postcards from Venice. It’s a place everyone should see once in their life, though seeing it feels almost like stepping into a mirage. Venice is kind of a memory preserved in stone and water, telling stories of a life lived before the world grew louder, faster, and somehow emptier.
“Back in April we went on a study trip to attend the Venice Biennale. Eager to document the journey once again, I took my point and shoot camera everywhere. Avoiding the tourist masses by choosing smaller streets, we lost ourselves in a labyrinth of pastel-colored walls and seemingly empty building. We discovered small overfilled bars, lots of restaurants that were tourist traps but still had a great time surrounded by art. I ended up putting together a series that reminds me of photos I would send to friends or my family as postcards.”
