This series, captured by photographer Emilio Dümar and starring model Alisa Winkler, showcases their second shoot at Uluwatu beach, accompanied by an inspiring piece of writing by Emilio.
“Bali is indeed a magical place, known for its beauty and generosity, but also for its teachings to the many who transit through it, for whatever reasons they may have. A place where people leave to become and leave again.
Alisa and I met towards the start of our respective trips, shooting a few swimwear brands and basking in the sun like our gecko neighbors—eager for what was in store for our month in Bali.
After parting ways following the shoot and occasionally running into each other around Uluwatu, the month flew by, and soon enough, we met again for a second shoot. This time, it was just before the end of our stay.
By now, the rainy season had truly kicked in, with sunshine at 8 a.m., clouds at 11 a.m., mega thunderstorms at 1 p.m., followed by a beautiful sunset at 7 p.m.
Melbourne thought they had four seasons in a day? Try an Indo monsoon.
While shooting, we realized how much both of us had discovered on this island, how much we had learned from ourselves and the people here, and what practices we plan to put into place. We also shared our experiences and excitement for future journeys.
It’s the uncertainty that is the beauty of solo traveling, where you don’t realize how far you have come until you chat about it with another in a similar position, and then, alas, you learn it again.
So, if you’re going to learn from your experiences, learn twice.”
